Most students in U.S. public schools are young people of color. Over 80% of their teachers are white. A new collection of essays includes thoughts on these dynamics from 24 white educators, including the Earl Center’s own Eli Tucker-Raymond with a chapter entitled “White Boy/Disrupting Whiteness.”

Created for educators by educators, From White Folks Who Teach in the Hood: Reflections on Race, Culture, and Identity offers readers a window into the essential work that must be done to transform our nation’s schools from sites of harm to sites of healing.

The anthology features over 20 educators representing different types of schools, geographies, and experiences. Co-editors, Dr. Christopher Emdin and sam seidel, offer reflections throughout on how to incorporate the practices and wrestle with the ideas outlined by the contributors.
